Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question about your website, Facebook fan page, Twitter page, or other project we’ve built for you? Chances are someone else has already asked the same question! Please see below for answers to common questions and if you don’t find your answer here, please feel free to contact us!
Web Design
1. Who owns the website after I receive my product?
When we custom design a website for you, we believe you own it and don’t have to pay ‘rent’ on it. Except for licenses or intellectual property rights for any 3rd-party features or graphics used in your product, you own all rights to your website or product without any monthly charge or fee.
2. How can I update my website after it launches?
If you’re using a website containing a content management system (CMS) such as WordPress or Drupal, simply log into your administration page to update your website. For WordPress users, this is usually www.myexample.com/wp-login.php (where “myexample” would be the URL for your website). For Drupal users, this would be www.myexample.com/user.
If you have a website consisting of just HTML pages (without a CMS), simply contact us to have your website updated with your changes.
3. Do you offer web hosting?
Yes, we do! If you need your website hosted, we offer reliable hosting for just $5.99 per month (for a 12-month period). Visit our Design ForSite web hosting link to sign up.
4. How can I get support for my web hosting?
For our clients who have both a website and web hosting with us, please contact hosting@designforsite.com.
For clients who have just web hosting with us, please contact our 24/7 help desk at (480) 624-2500.
Social Media
1. How do I update my Facebook fan page?
To update your Facebook fan page, simply log into your Facebook account. Then either visit your Facebook vanity URL (e.g. http://www.facebook.com/designforsite) or on the Facebook home page containing your News Feed, under “Pages” along the left-hand menu click the name of your fan page.
When you reach your fan page, you can update your page with posts or click the “Edit Page” button in the upper right.
2. How do I let people know about my Facebook fan page?
After you have created a Facebook fan page, you’ll need to let all of your fans (and future fans) where to find it. Simply share your Facebook fan page URL with your clients, friends, family, etc. using email, your personal Facebook fan page, other social media channels (e.g. Twitter) and even on your collateral media like brochures and business cards.
3. I created a Facebook fan page but no one is commenting on it and the number of people visiting is low. What’s going on?
The key to attracting readers to your fan page (and keeping them there) is providing information of value on a regular basis that they want to interact with. Sometimes this can be affected by factors such as holiday seasons, too many posts in a day or week, not enough posts in the week, the content being posted isn’t engaging enough to readers, fans don’t know where to find your fan page, etc.
4. So if no one is visiting or posting to my fan page, what can I do?
The key word is social media is “social” and, like any social interaction, requires a constant dialogue and a meaningful message. In terms of constancy, be sure to post to your Facebook fan page at least 3 times per week (given so much is happening on Facebook nowadays) so that you stay at the top of your readers minds at some point.
Also, social media means keeping things as social as possible when it comes to your message. Thus, avoid trying to pitch and sell in your posts (it’s ok to do so now and then – perhaps 1-2 times for every 10 posts) and post information of value to your readers. For example, if you own an auto repair shop, perhaps offer tips on how to prepare your car for the winter. Or if you sell gift baskets, try offering suggestions on what to put in them.
In Facebook, when you let readers discover the value of what you offer through sharing helpful information and your expertise, people will naturally gravitate towards your product or service and increase the chances of buying from you.
5. Should I post business content to my personal Facebook fan page?
Many people enjoy Facebook for its social atmosphere and disdain being marketed to (there’s plenty of that already going around elsewhere on the Web). With a few exceptions, we really believe your business posts should be kept to your Facebook fan page (after all, when people “like” your Facebook fan page they’ve subscribed to updates from your fan page, not your personal FB profile).
If you must post something to your personal Facebook profile, just remember to keep it casual and social (e.g. celebrating the anniversary of a business and doing a personal Facebook post to high school friends inviting them to come out and support).
